    My wife and I recently moved to Minneapolis from Los Angeles. As we adjusted to the new environment, we decided that it was time to purchase a home. As first-time home buyers, we faced many challenges. Here are some specific ways in which Ed Schaefer was extremely helpful to us. First, Ed was able to explain the process of purchasing a home in ways that made sense to us. Neither of us had facility with all the technical real estate vocabulary, and Ed explained the meaning of all those terms. Second, Ed took the time to get to know our lifestyles and values. This became a critical feature in helping us locate the right fit with neighborhood, house style, lot size, and target price points. In this last category of target price point, Ed was very proactive about trying to make sure we got the best for what we could afford. He also helped us make informed decisions with a view to the long term perspective on home ownership. As we've learned through friends and associates, there are a lot of real estate agents who have only one goal: to get you to sign on the dotted line... at whatever cost to you. Ed is NOT short-sighted or predatory like that. He helped us think through our options and choices, and encouraged us to stay within our price points to ensure our long term satisfaction. He earned our respect, trust, and future business, because he showed that he had our best interests in mind. Third, once we decided to move forward on a home purchase, Ed was thorough in showing us our options. He showed us many different types of houses in many neighborhoods in order that we would get a feel for what features of homes and neighborhoods factor into housing prices. When we asked more specific questions about neighborhoods, he was able to direct us to reputable sources of information that would educate us about the neighborhoods where we looked for homes. At the end of our house search process, we felt that Ed did a superb job giving us an accurate snapshot of the various housing markets in the Twin Cities. Finally, when it came to making an offer, Ed was an assertive, strong advocate for us. Without going into too much detail, I was very satisfied by how savvy he was in bargaining with the other agent.
